We are now rapidly progressing through picking this season thanks to the continued spell of dry weather. With Gala and Bramley all picked and into store until it is required, we are now waiting on the Braeburn to be just right for picking. However rather than just sitting around, this small breather gives us the opportunity to pick some of our newer up and coming varieties, namely Spartan, Opal and Red Prince. Spartan, a traditional English variety is making something of a comeback and looks great with an almost purple/ maroon skin. Opal on the other hand is very new to the market with a distinctive yellow skin and crisp taste. These will both be available in supermarkets soon. However for Red Prince, a deep red apple with growing popularity, you will have to wait a little longer as we find that, just like wine, it tastes better over time. To learn more about our varieties visit the ‘What We Grow’ page and look out for the Adrian Scripps Ltd name!
