Saturday saw the release of a new short film, ‘Foreign Pickers’, which draws comparisons between the movement of Hop pickers from East London to Kent, to the modern day fruit picking involving mainly EU labour. The film was commissioned by Company Drinks who are seeking to re-establish the urban-rural link through a number of trips to the countryside for gleaning activities in order to make a range of Juices and Sodas. You can learn more about what they do here. We were delighted that we could be involved in the project, with the video featuring a number of our own seasonal workers and we feel perfectly illustrates the continued importance of seasonal labour. The project culminated in ex-hop pickers visiting us at Moat Farm to glean some of our thinned Gala apples in order to make a brilliant tasting Sour Soda.
