Adrian Scripps Ltd are looking for a full-time Quality Controller at our packhouse near Tonbridge, Kent.
Applicants need to be local to Tonbridge and have their own transport due to the rural location.
Job Description
Key responsibilities:
- Review incoming and stored produce against quality specifications, taking samples and performing product checks. You must report the findings and detail them on our systems.
- Assess the weights, sizes, colours, and defects of produce to ensure that product is within specification. Assess problems which will require further attention and communicate the results to the appropriate individuals, in a timely matter.
- Actively develop the production operatives on the line, ensuring they have the necessary training and skills to perform all key procedures, in accordance with the product specifications.
- Provide advice to the production teams as required and assist with label and packaging checks.
- Carry out product assessments during production runs and post-packing to ensure quality of finished product conforms with customer specification and quality standards.
- Feedback finished product integrity and conditions on an ongoing basis to the production team and management, in line with the customer specification, providing detailed information as to cases checked and defect levels found, as applicable.
- Assist in the preparation of the site, the staff and the systems for audits and visits.
- Complete compliance checks and internal audits.
- Check quality and recording of shelf-life samples over a defined period.
- Ensure strict conformance to all Health & Safety procedures. Actively review the standard operating procedures, suggesting and recommending improvements.
- Actively participate as a member of the Quality Control team, providing input to daily production meetings and ongoing business improvements.
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities, as requested by senior management.
Communication
Main internal contacts of the role:
- The Operations Manager, Packhouse Manager and QC Manager on a daily basis to discuss training and quality/compliance issues and concerns.
- The Planning and Commercial team on a regular basis to review product status, usage requirements and quality issues.
- The production employees on a daily basis to highlight any training, quality/compliance issues.
- The Dispatch team when checking and recording quality of products.
- External contacts: growers, surveyors, and suppliers as and when required.
Working Hours and Benefits
- Full training provided in business procedures and operating protocols.
- Standard hours: 07:30 to 16:30. You will have two unpaid breaks, with a total of 1 hour per day.
- Adrian Scripps Ltd currently runs a 6-day packing operation, from Monday to Saturday. This role will work on a flexible shift pattern, covering 7 days dispatching where and when required, working 5 out of 7 days, across all operational running hours. You may be required to work outside these hours to meet the demand of the business.
- Pay grade: £12.92 to £13.70 per hour depending on experience.
- You will be paid fortnightly.
- Overtime: After 48 hours, you will be paid at 125% of basic pay.
- Holiday allowance: 28 paid days per annum, including bank holidays.

Required Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to work flexibly, both independently and as part of a team, to deliver accurate and thorough Quality Assurance service at our facility.
- Ability to understand and interpret specifications, using this as a basis for routine decision-making and action to be taken.
- A determined and open-minded approach, with the ability to communicate with confidence at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Ideally, prior experience within a quality-related function in fresh produce.
- A good general education is required, and you must be able to understand both written and spoken English, to communicate effectively and write clear and concise reports.
- Live locally to Tonbridge with your own transport due to the rural location of the farm.
